Rothley Low Lake

Rothley Low Lake was designed and landscaped by Lancelot Capability Brown in around 1770, commissioned by Sir Walter Blackett. It is one of the few examples of his work in the North East which he completed in his lifetime.

We are very fortunate to have Rothley Low Lake.

Rothley Low Lake was designed and landscaped by Lancelot Capability Brown in around 1770, commissioned by Sir Walter Blackett.  It is one of the few examples of his work in the North East which he completed in his lifetime.

The lake is designed in his trademark serpentine style.  Drawings show that he also planned to construct a lodge overlooking the lake to complete the landscape.  We have also recently planted trees in the place where Capability Brown had planned for trees on his drawings.

The lake is let out to a Felling Fly Fishing syndicate http://www.fellingflyfishers.co.uk/ who enjoy excellent fishing for rainbow trout.
