Sheep

Producing our own replacement ewes, means the flock starts with the breeds that can produce that right mothering ewe. This has traditionally been the Swaledale Ewe (hardy and resilient) crossed with the Leicester Tup (good milk and mothering traits). This produces the Mule Ewe.

We are aiming to produce a versatile sheep that can live in the Northumberland uplands, yet still produce good lambs to sell commercially.

We produce a similar style ewe to the Mule, but often use other breeds, LLeyn crossed with Aberfield, to find the holy grail….a ewe that produces two healthy lambs, can live in the hills, eat very little, and have the right genetics to provide ewe replacements and produce excellent meat.

Our lambs are sold to either Ocado, Sainsbury’s or Waitrose, as well as selling locally.
